99% of all species that ever existed on the Earth are now extinct. We imagine that their spirits migrate to the skies as they pass on. The Celestial Extinction series of prints charts each species' constellation in the ether of the night sky.
If desired, you can cut out and fold the print to create a container. While containing the essence of an extinct species is fleeting and it is impossible to hold on to a spirit forever, the container illustrates the contradiction of preserving the unpreservable.
A limited edition series of 50 prints. Each print is 20" wide by 15" high, and is silk-screened by hand with dark navy ink on 140 lb Canford paper.
Sub-Studio formed in New York City in 2004 when Anna Corpron and Sean Auyeung forged a design partnership to combine their individual creative interests. At the moment we draw inspiration from the flora and fauna of the natural world, urban spaces (especially those that have been discarded), the anatomy of machines, and the creatures we imagine.
Besides making things, we also provide multi-faceted design solutions to clients seeking a young yet sophisticated style.
